What is a spiritual retreat?
A retreat is a break in daily occupations to talk more intimately with God, and praying is a basic human need. There are countless testimonies about taking time away to seek a more personal and direct encounter with God. Jesus Himself retreated to pray and to prepare for His ordeal on this Earth. Today, like always, Christians need to take a few days off to come closer to their Father, to get to know Him and themselves better.
What is a retreat for?
Business owners strive to prevent their businesses from floundering as a result of negligence or poor management. The most important business in our lives is to save our souls and to deserve heaven. To that end, it is advisable -at least once a year- to look at how we are using the talents (virtues and gifts) that God has given us, trying to determine, with the help of the Holy Spirit, what we are doing right and what we need to work on.
How does a retreat unfold?
Typically, these retreats start on Thursday evening and conclude by Sunday afternoon. Over the weekend, in addition to praying the Rosary and going through the Stations of the Cross, reflection sessions and lectures are held on specific topics associated with the challenges faced by Christians. Usual topics include the call to holiness, the struggle for virtues, sins, lukewarm spirituality, and the final stages in human life. Retreats also focus on Jesus, our role model, and his teachings -his new love commandment, the invitation to preach, the demand for poverty in order to enter the Heavenly Kingdom, the need to do our duty to perfection, the importance of prayer. Reflection sessions, lectures and discussions are separated by recesses intended to let participants meditate on their contents.
